Due to the added value created by the organic production process, Songtaaba decided to give a new direction to the main activity of its members; namely producing organic shea butter.

Traditionnally, organic agriculture is defined as an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles, and soil biological activity. It is based on minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain, or enhance ecological harmony. The primary goal of organic agriculture is to optimize the health and productivity of interdependent communities of soil life, plants, animals and people.

The organic shea butter Karibio complies with the most rigourous international norms (Canada, European Union). The bio certificate guaranties the consumer to get a very high quality product with no residues of chemical pesticides or fertilizers, which can be stocked longer and last but not least, which is significantly richer in nutritive elements than the traditionnal butter.

Indeed, no chemical fertilizer or pesticide is used on the gathering and processing territories of the 4 villages involved in the project.

Training & empowerment
All the stakeholders of the production chain receive training on the techniques of organic production and at each stage, an official is responsible for the quality of the product.

Strict labelling
At each stage of the production; collection and processing of nuts, processing of almond into butter, filtering and packaging of organic butter, a strict identification is made on each package. This prevents the risk of contamination and enables the determination of its origin.

- no pesticide residues,
- a better conservation content,
- and most important, a higher content of nutritive elements.

The organic shea butter Karibio is certified by the independent certification institution, Ecocert and has received the Canadian label, Garantie Bio.
